Developing Emotional Intelligence

Central to most of the Mindsight programmes is developing emotional and social intelligence using the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory (ESCI): a unique online survey tool which assesses and measures the emotional and social behaviours of colleagues, employees and coaches.

This tool provides detailed and valuable feedback, enabling your to focus development efforts and coaching objectives on the skills that deliver real performance improvement.

The ESCI measures high-performance behaviours that can be developed. So you can be confident that you’re measuring and monitoring the things that matter, giving you a basis for developing high-performance behaviour across the organization and whatever your development endeavour.

What is emotional and social intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves and for managing emotions effectively in ourselves and others. An emotional and social competency is a learned capacity, based on emotional intelligence, which contributes to effective performance at work.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage emotions (yours and others).

The emotionally intelligent person exhibits such competencies as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management.

Why Measure Emotional and Social Intelligence?

Research has shown that, at the executive and professional level, emotional intelligence or “EQ” (as it is often called) is a better predictor of success than “IQ”.

Emotional and social intelligence is what makes the difference between a highly effective leader/team and an average one. Emotional Intelligence unlike IQ is something that can be developed and grown.

What is the ESCI

The ESCI tool provides a structured and systematic way of asking people who know you/your team members well, how they see you/them behaving in work situations in each of these competency areas.

It uses 360-degree feedback (both quantitative and qualitative written comments) to assess your Emotional Intelligence, compared to a target group of successful leaders and managers. Then as an ESCI accredited coach we will work together to identify key development area and use these to inform coaching objectives.
